Definition

Ultra High Frequency; a band of radio frequencies used for television broadcasting and other communications, spanning 300 MHz to 3 GHz. UHF channels (typically 14-83) offered more channels than VHF but often required better antenna positioning for clear reception.

Example Usage

The new station broadcasting in our area operates on UHF channel 42, so I had to adjust my antenna to pick it up.

Formalized as a technical standard in the mid-20th century; UHF broadcasting expanded in the 1960s as the need for additional television channels grew.
