Reaching failure, resting briefly (15-30 seconds), then continuing for additional reps at reduced weight or rep count. Extended torture with administrative breaks.
Example Usage
On my final set of barbell rows, I hit 8 reps, rested 20 seconds, then did 4 more reps to fully exhaust the muscles.
Origin
Strength training technique; systematized in bodybuilding and hypertrophy training.
Fun Fact
Rest-pause sets allow you to accumulate more volume with heavy weights than standard sets, maximizing growth stimulus.
