Definition

The process where atoms lose electrons and throw a chemistry tantrum, increasing their oxidation state in the process. It's basically rust's fancy cousin and the reason your avocado toast turns brown.

Example Usage

The oxidation of the metal created a nasty patina that required serious scrubbing.
