Definition

Mission Oriented Protective Posture level (0-4) indicating how much chemical/biological protective gear troops must wear. A scale measuring both threat level and how miserable everyone is about to be.

Example Usage

Intelligence reports possible chemical weaponsโ€”command is raising us to MOPP level 2.

Origin

Developed during the Cold War when chemical and biological warfare was a primary concern

Fun Fact

MOPP level 4 (full suit, mask, gloves, and boots) is so hot and restrictive that soldiers can only function for short periods before heat exhaustion sets in.
