Definition
To chemically or physically separate a substance into its pure form, the scientific equivalent of 'I need some me time' but with beakers and centrifuges involved.
Example Usage
The lab successfully isolated the active compound from the plant extract, which then promptly lost its efficacy when they realized they'd isolated the wrong thing.
