Definition

A migratory rainbow trout that migrates from the ocean back to freshwater rivers to spawn, named for the metallic sheen on its head and body during its ocean phase. Prized by sport fishers for their size, strength, and fighting ability, steelhead are found primarily in the Pacific Northwest.
