Definition
Stretching while holding a position for time (touching your toes, quad stretches). It's what your yoga instructor makes you do at the end of class.
Example Usage
I do 30-second static stretches after my workout to improve flexibility.
Origin
Traditional stretching method; formalized in exercise science and flexibility training.
Fun Fact
Static stretching before intense exercise reduces strength and power output, which is why it's better saved for post-workout or dedicated flexibility sessions.
