Definition
A training technique where you perform a set to failure, rest briefly (10-30 seconds), then continue for additional reps. It's the workout equivalent of a horror movie where the monster keeps coming back just when you thought it was over.
Example Usage
Rest-pause sets seemed like a great idea until I realized 'rest' is a generous term for 'gasping for air while contemplating life choices.'
Origin
Popularized by bodybuilder Mike Mentzer in the 1970s as part of High Intensity Training
Fun Fact
Rest-pause training can generate similar hypertrophy to traditional sets with 50% less training volume, making it the lazy overachiever's dream technique.
