Definition

A high-rep set performed at the end of a workout to accumulate volume and achieve the pump. The vanity set disguised as training.

Example Usage

After my heavy squats, I did a pump-up set of 20 reps to finish with a nice quad engorgement.

Origin

Bodybuilding vernacular; emerged in the 1970s.

Fun Fact

Pump-up sets are primarily useful for hypertrophy and endorphin release; they contribute minimally to strength gains.
