Definition
A metal rod used to poke and adjust burning logs in a fireplace—basically a stick that lets you feel tough while doing household chores. Also the guy who does the poking, though he's less common these days.

He grabbed the poker and stirred the embers, pretending he was commanding an ancient forge.
