Definition
A foundational skateboarding trick in which the rider pops the tail of the board against the ground to make it become airborne without using their hands, allowing the skater to leap onto obstacles or achieve height.

Origin
Invented by skateboarding legend Alan 'Ollie' Gelfand in 1978; named after his nickname.
Fun Fact
The ollie is considered the most important trick in modern skateboarding; nearly all advanced tricks build from this fundamental technique.
