Noctambulism

Definition

The act of walking or moving about during sleep, also known as sleepwalking. This parasomnia occurs during non-REM sleep stages and can range from simple sitting up in bed to complex navigation and activity.

Example Usage

The patient's noctambulism was so severe that his family installed safety gates to prevent him from leaving the house at night.

Origin

From Latin 'nocta' (night) and 'ambulare' (to walk).
