Definition
Military euphemism for combat actions involving actual weapons fire and explosions, as opposed to information or psychological operations. Because saying 'we're shooting at people' lacks the scientific gravitas that Pentagon briefings demand.
Example Usage
After weeks of diplomatic efforts, the general authorized kinetic operations against enemy positions.
Origin
Popularized during late 1990s military transformation efforts to sound more technical and less violent
Fun Fact
The term became so overused in military briefings that satirists began referring to 'non-kinetic kinetic operations' as a joke about military jargon inflation.
