Keloid

Intermediate 🏥 Healthcare / Medical

Definition

An excessive scar that grows beyond the original wound boundary. Your skin's overachieving response to injury—like a participation trophy gone wrong.

Example Usage

The patient's tendency toward keloid formation meant we had to be very careful about surgical wound closure technique.

Origin

From Greek 'chele' (claw) and Latin suffix '-oid' (resembling), because they look like claws

Fun Fact

Keloids are more common in darker-skinned individuals and can continue growing for months or years after injury. Genetics are unfair.
