Definition

An immediate after-action review conducted while memories are fresh and emotions are high. The military version of 'let's debrief while we're still angry about what just happened.'

Example Usage

We're doing a hotwash in fifteen minutes, so everyone grab your notes and be ready to discuss what went wrong.

Origin

Possibly derived from the quick wash-down of equipment while still warm from use

Fun Fact

Hotwashes are considered more valuable than formal AARs precisely because people haven't had time to rationalize their mistakes yet.
