Definition
The sudden, catastrophic fatigue around mile 20 of a marathon when glycogen stores deplete and your brain starts negotiating for a DNF. Unlike bonking, the wall is specifically marathon-related and has its own mile marker.
Example Usage
I hit the wall at mile 21 and the last 5 miles were a death march of regret and cramping.
Origin
Marathon running terminology from the early 20th century
Fun Fact
The wall is so predictable at mile 20 that race spectators specifically gather there with signs like 'The wall is a lie' and extra encouragement.
