Grantee

Beginner 🏠 Real Estate

Definition

The person or entity receiving property rights through a deed—basically, the buyer in a real estate transaction. The happy person at closing.

Example Usage

The deed identified us as the grantees receiving title to the property from the previous owners.

Origin

From Old French 'granter' (to grant/give), describing one who receives a grant.

Fun Fact

The grantee's signature on the deed is actually less important legally than the grantor's, since the receiver didn't need to sign to receive something.
