Definition
Forward Arming and Refueling Point—a temporary resupply base closer to combat allowing helicopters and aircraft to refuel and rearm without returning to main base. It's essentially a gas station in a war zone.
Example Usage
The Apache gunships would refuel at the FARP before heading back out for another sortie.
Origin
Concept developed during the Vietnam War to extend helicopter operational range and endurance.
Fun Fact
FARPs are typically heavily defended since they're attractive targets for enemy forces seeking to degrade aviation capability.
