CTR (Click-Through Rate)

Beginner 📣 Marketing / Advertising

Definition

The percentage of people who see your ad and actually click it, calculated as clicks divided by impressions. It's the metric that separates ads people tolerate from ads people actively ignore.

Example Usage

Our CTR dropped to 0.8%, which means our ad copy is either boring or accidentally asking people to click something they'll regret.

Origin

Digital advertising measurement, popularized with early banner ads in the 1990s

Fun Fact

Average CTR across industries ranges from 0.5-2%, though some email campaigns achieve 5%+ if people actually care about what you're selling
