Definition

A strategy board game where two players place naval vessels on a grid and take turns calling out coordinates to locate and sink their opponent's hidden ships. The first player to destroy all of their opponent's ships wins.

Example Usage

We played Battleship for an hour, and I finally sank her last cruiser to win the game.

Origin

Originated as a pen-and-paper game in the early 1900s before being formalized by Milton Bradley in 1931.

Fun Fact

The game was adapted into a 2012 action film starring Taylor Kitsch and Liam Neeson.
