In astrology, the 12 zodiacal constellations (Aries through Pisces) that correspond to different personality archetypes based on birth dates. Each sign is believed to influence personality traits, behavior, and compatibility.

We're totally incompatible—I'm a Capricorn and she's a Gemini, and our signs just don't mesh well.
Origin
From the Babylonian zodiac, adopted into Western astrology via Hellenistic Greece; the term 'sign' has been used in this context since at least the 15th century.
Fun Fact
There are actually 13 constellations in the ecliptic path, but Western astrology uses only 12 to maintain symmetry.
