Optimistic or positive in outlook, especially in an unjustifiably confident way; also refers to the color blood-red or a ruddy complexion.

Origin

From Latin 'sanguineus' (bloody), derived from 'sanguis' (blood), as blood was once thought to indicate a hopeful temperament.

Fun Fact
