Rule of the Mountain

Definition

A fair-division principle where one person divides a shared item into two portions, and the other person gets to choose which half they prefer. It removes the incentive to be greedy since the divider can't guarantee getting the bigger piece.

Example Usage

Let's use the Rule of the Mountain to split this pizza—you cut it into two slices and I'll pick whichever one I want.
