Remote Work / Work From Home (WFH)

Beginner 👥 Human Resources

Definition

Employment where workers perform their duties from home or locations outside a physical office. It's what everyone demanded during the pandemic, only to realize their home office is also their bedroom, kitchen, and self-care space.

Example Usage

After the pandemic, our company mandated three days in-office to 'rebuild collaboration,' which employees interpreted as 'management doesn't trust us.'

Origin

Possible before the 1990s but became mainstream in the 2000s; exploded during COVID-19 in 2020.

Fun Fact

Post-pandemic, 16% of job openings are fully remote, yet 92% of companies now mandate some in-office time despite productivity data showing no benefit.
