Definition

A formal testing program, officially the Presidential Physical Fitness Test, administered in American schools to measure students' physical fitness through standardized exercises like pull-ups, sit-ups, and mile runs. Passing resulted in certificates and recognition.

Origin

Established in 1966 by President Lyndon B. Johnson; rebranded as the Presidential Youth Fitness Program in 2012.

Fun Fact

The Presidential Fitness Test was discontinued in its original form, replaced by the more flexible Presidential Youth Fitness Program focused on promoting active lifestyles rather than rigid performance standards.
