A small enclosed booth where people insert coins to take a series of instant photographs, typically printed as a strip of 4-6 small black-and-white or color photos. Popular at arcades, malls, and events since the mid-20th century.

Origin

First patented in 1925 by Anatol Josepho in New York; the concept merged photography with coin-operated vending.

Fun Fact

Modern digital photo booths and instant-print versions still appear at weddings and parties, though the original mechanical strips are now collectible vintage items.
