Definition

A system of numeric sequences sent to pagers to convey messages or meanings, widely used in the 1990s before texting became standard. Common codes included 143 ("I love you") and 411 ("information").

Example Usage

She paged him 911 to let him know it was an emergency, and he called her back within minutes.

Developed organically by pager users who found creative ways to communicate using limited technology and numeric keypads.
