Definition

A suffix used to denote a field of study or branch of knowledge (as in biology, psychology, or geology); informally, any specialized field or body of knowledge about a subject. Ology itself has become shorthand for systematic study.

From Greek -logia, combining form from logos (word, reason, study) + -ia (condition or quality).
