Definition

An imaginary line running from the North Pole to the South Pole on a map or globe; also, in traditional Chinese medicine, a pathway through which vital life force (qi) is believed to flow through the body.

Origin

From Latin meridianus, meaning 'of midday,' originally referring to the sun's position at noon.
