A decorative lighting fixture consisting of a glass container with a heat source at the base, containing two immiscible liquids (typically wax and colored dyed water) that form slowly moving blobs when heated. The mesmerizing effect made lava lamps iconic symbols of 1960s counterculture and remain popular retro dΓ©cor.
