Definition
A property marketing status indicating a listing will be active shortly, used to generate buzz and pre-market the property before it officially hits the MLS. It's the real estate equivalent of a movie trailer, complete with the same level of hype.
Example Usage
We put the listing in 'coming soon' status for five days and already have three showings scheduled for the first day it goes active.
Origin
MLS marketing terminology, formalized in NAR rules around 2017
Fun Fact
The 'coming soon' period can't exceed 21 days under NAR rules, preventing agents from indefinitely warehousing listings in promotional limbo.
