Definition
Surgeons, quilters, and mattress makers all insist on this fluffy stuffing, and nobody outside the trade has ever asked what it is. It's cotton or synthetic wadding, sometimes sterile, that fills quilts and mattresses and sometimes soaks up blood in the operating room.
Example Usage
The quilt was sewn with a thick polyester batting, which the instructor insisted was 'essential for loft.'
