Definition

Divided into proportional portions according to a formula—particularly in government, where congressional seats get reapportioned after each Census based on population changes. It's why politicians obsess over population counts; your state's seat in Congress depends on it.

Example Usage

After the Census, the 435 House seats are reapportioned among states based on updated population figures, which is why politicians suddenly care whether you complete your census form or not.

It's democracy's studio apartment—more efficient, cheaper to maintain, but with half the space for checks and balances. Found mostly in smaller countries and U.S. states that decided Nebraska should be unique in some way.
