Antithetical

Definition

Directly opposed or contrasted in character; representing the exact opposite of something. When two things are antithetical, they are fundamentally incompatible or mutually exclusive in meaning or purpose.

Example Usage

The defendant's testimony was antithetical to the evidence presented by the prosecution.

Origin

From Greek 'antithesis', combining 'anti' (against) and 'tithenai' (to place, to set).
