Definition

A deviation from what is normal, expected, or standard; something that differs from the usual pattern or rule. In optics, it also refers to a distortion of light rays that prevents them from converging to a single point.

Origin

From Latin 'aberrare' (to wander from), composed of 'ab-' (away from) and 'errare' (to wander or err).

Fun Fact

Chromatic aberration is a common problem in cameras where different colors of light focus at slightly different distances, creating colored fringes around high-contrast edges.
